“Joyce’s Tower, Sandycove”.
Although this Martello Tower was lived in by Oliver St John Gogarty for a number of years, it became known as Joyce’s Tower, even though he only lived there for 6 days. On the final night of his stay he had a tumultuous row with Gogarty, leading to his departure the following morning. This event inspired the first chapter of the world acclaimed classic novel “Ulysses” and immortalised Gogarty as the character Buck Mulligan. Today it houses the James Joyce Museum
