In the mid 1600’s Oliver Cromwell decided to finally put Ireland to heel and planned an invasion. As he drew up his plans, he showed great determination in executing his plan and was quoted saying to his Generals that he would “invade either by Hook or by Crookhaven in Cork” and so the well versed saying was coined. The Hook Lighthouse is now the oldest operating Lighthouse in the world standing at just over 800 years old.
